One of the biggest markets on the internet today is sports merchandise. The average sports fan spends hundreds of pounds a year supporting their chosen team and a big chunk of this spending can be attributed to merchandise.
In the UK, Football rules supreme and the English Premiership is the wealthiest, most sensational league in the world. One of the most dramatic days of the season is transfer deadline day. Clubs are battling against the clock to sign some of the biggest, most exciting names in the world. Not only is a lot of money spent by the clubs to acquire these players but a lot of money is spent by fans clamouring to own a replica shirt with their new hero’s name or number printed on the back. As a neutral spectator and business person this creates an excellent opportunity to cut a slice of the profit.
The key to this venture is to look for transfers which have generated a huge amount of public interest and for clubs who have a large fan base, both domestically and internationally. In the latest transfer window two signings really caught the eye:

Item Two – Elmo Live
Christmas is fast approaching and the time has come to call which toy is going to rule over all others in the sales war. After some in-depth research we have unearthed an absolute gem.

Here is a testimonial from an American parent whose child came in contact with little Elmo: Recently, I stood in the store and watched my two and a half year old son become entranced by Elmo Live. Not interested, but ENTRANCED. Elmo Live is aptly named, since Elmo comes alive. I think that the makers of this little red wonder have made a convincing toy version of the adorable muppet that gets so much face time on Sesame Street these days. My son stood in front of the store display of Elmo Live toys and pushed the “try me” button over and over to hear Elmo say “Elmo loves you. THIS MUCH! Mwa Mwa (sound of Elmo kissing).” This is only one of a lot of things Elmo can do, but it’s the natural dose of Lovin’ with a capital “L” that my two year old son responded to. He watched Elmo over and over, punctuated with an astonished and reverent “Emooo.” My son enjoys Elmo’s World on Sesame Street, but he was mesmerized by Elmo Live. Elmo sounds just like the one on TV, and his robotic movements are engaging and smooth so that some younger children may blur the distinction between reality and fantasy. Elmo Live is a much different take on robotic toys than the other Huge robotic offering this year: Imaginext’s Spike the Ultradinosaur. Unlike Spike, who is powered by a remote controller like a remote control car, Elmo retains his doll-like qualities in that you must push his different body parts to get his elaborate functionality. But that’s where the doll in Elmo ends and the robot begins. Robot Elmo tells stories, blows kisses, tells jokes, laughs, and interacts with kids.
I think Elmo Live is a winner beyond the sensational or collectible aspect of the earlier Tickle-me-Elmo dolls, and will make a special gift for children in the preschool age group and anyone who likes to watch old Sesame Street clips on YouTube.” |
